Stressed yet?
“Be still and know that I am God…” (Psalm 46:10a)
Shopping, tree trimming, shopping, baking, shopping, planning, shopping, worshiping, shopping, wrapping, shopping and more shopping.
Stressed yet?
“Be still and know that I am God…”
Waiting in line at the mall (socially distanced, of course), at the specialty store, at the grocery store, at the post office, at the holiday gathering, at the special event, at the computer/iPad/smartphone as you browse/shop online.
Stressed yet?
“Be still and know that I am God…”
Sending cards and mail, receiving cards mail both off-line and online. Sending gifts by UPS, FedEx, and Priority Mail – will it get there on time? Will it get there at all?
Stressed yet?
“Be still and know that I am God…”
Work commitments, school commitments, home commitments, child commitments, Christmas gathering preparations, travel preparations, COVID concerns – when’s the last time you got a decent night’s sleep?
Stressed yet?
“Be still and know that I am God…”
Consider how the above verse ends… “I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.” (Psalm 46:10b) Indeed, God is exalted – the manger, the cross, the empty tomb, an open heaven.
May we exalt him in our Christmas celebration! Above all, may we listen to him! How? Bible reading, worship (in person or online), and devotional reading. Let me share with you my personal plan:
- I’m reading through “The Jesse Tree” – Advent Devotions by the MLC faculty; find them in booklet form in Trinity’s fellowship hall and online at https://mlc-wels.edu/publications/seasonal-devotions/
- Devotions from On Giving Advice to God, Part 1 by Daniel Deutschlander (Advent & Christmas)
- I’m also reading through Isaiah 40-66, with an eye to the upcoming Lenten season. Why, after all, did Christ come? To take away my sins!
“Be still and know that I am God…”
Waiting with you,
Pastor Stephen Luchterhand
