Forget the 99%. And the 1%. Or was it the 98%? (Memories of that movement, now a decade in the past, are fuzzy) Forget the politics and the economics. Disregard the media’s agenda-driven portrayals of anything – which today, frankly, means everything. Cover your ears and close your eyes to all else and give attention to what will “Occupy” your heart and mind this weekend.
Will you occupy Christmas? Or better, will Christmas occupy you? Will the Christ occupy the place of honor in your heart?
Have you had enough of shopping, buying, spending, wrapping, baking, writing, mailing, planning, cleaning?
Will you occupy Christmas? Or will you follow the majority, the huge throngs that stream by the manger, uncaring.
Or will you follow Mary’s example, and ponder the wonder of the Christchild…given for you?
“Mary treasured up all these things and pondered them in her heart.” (Luke 2:19)
This isn’t political or economical or sociological. It’s personal and spiritual – to truly center your Christmas on the Christ.
Will you? With God’s help, please do.
Ah, dearest Jesus, holy Child,
Prepare a bed, soft, undefiled
Within my heart, made clean and new
A quiet chamber kept for you. (Christian Worship 38, v.13)
A Blessed Christmas to you and yours!
