Crisis is the word of the moment…everywhere. All. The. Time. “Breaking News” about a broken world…
The housing market, the financial markets, and the stock market are all in crisis. Rising gas and food prices (and shrinking food packaging) cause heartburn and angst.
Where do you go to get relief from the constant crisis-mentality? What word, more specifically, what Word of God takes you from crisis to Christ?
Here’s one. Psalm 46.
“God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble.” (v. 1) An awesome, needed beginning, because times are tough. They are always challenging.
“Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea, though its waters roar and foam and the mountains quake with their surging… Nations are in uproar, kingdoms fall.” (vv. 2-3,6a)
Difficult times come and go, but we have one constant upon which we can rely:
“The Lord Almighty is with us; the God of Jacob is our fortress.” (v. 7,11)
What to do about the market meltdown, inflation pressures, worry about war abroad and division at home, or anything and everything that might be happening in our lives – physically, emotionally, spiritually?
“Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.” (v. 10)
This is a Scripture that truly takes me from concern to confidence, from crisis to Christ. What’s yours? What Word of God takes you from crisis to Christ?
In Christ,
Pastor Stephen Luchterhand
