“It’s all good!” We’re Gucci!”
“Can you believe him/her? I’m just smh.” “I’m rofl.” “Lol.”
“Meet up at your crib/spread/place?”
:-) :(
Do you have FOMO? OR do you crave JOMO?
(**OK, translation of some of the above. Some of these are so…2000s, like last decade even… “smh” = “shaking my head”; “rofl” = “rolling on floor laughing”; “crib” – NOT a place where babies sleep, in slang terms it refers to someone’s residence; FOMO – “fear of missing out” especially when it comes to social media; JOMO – “Joy of missing out”)
Communication is a multi-faceted endeavor. Verbal, visual, written, and unspoken aspects all join together to convey the totality of a message. Clear communication sometimes depends on which generation you belong to. (See above)
Clear communication is always a two-way street, with both parties needing to both listen well and communicate clearly. One-sided communication backfires in marriage, families, and in politics. Just try it.
Communication with God is tricky. On the one hand, he is so far beyond and above us that we couldn’t possibly comprehend a “typical” divine thought, if there were such a thing. On the other hand, sin gets in the way. Sin keeps us from direct, clear contact with the God of the universe.
But God resolved this communication problem. “In the past, God spoke to our forefathers by the prophets at many times and in many ways. In these last days, he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed heir of all things, and through whom he made the universe. The Son is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact imprint of the divine nature. He sustains all things by his powerful word. After he had provided purification for sins, he took his seat at the right hand of the Majesty on high.” (Hebrews 1:1-3 EHV)
God’s Word is abundantly clear. He is love. He sent Jesus. He speaks to us of his love. May he grant us the repentance and faith to continue to hear his powerful, saving voice with unmistakable clarity!
God be with you,
Pastor Stephen Luchterhand
