I’m referring, of course, to the picture that accompanies this update. Who puts a toilet on their lawn in full view of the neighborhood, fills the empty spaces with cement, and leaves it out there as some sort of…Decoration? Statement? Proclamation? Testimonial?
Is the “monument” a reflection of how life is going for the people who live in that home? Would it serve as a reflection of how things are going for you? Would you use it as your profile picture on your social media platforms? Would it be appropriate for you right now? Or would another item be more suitable as a declaration of your current mood/vibe?
So…how are things going for you?
That question generates as many different responses as there are people who read this. One person can have multiple reactions to such a question. I certainly do, and I’ll keep them to myself.
No matter how things are going, whether absolutely great or mind-numbingly horrible, whether you’re filled with anxiety and worry or triumph and joy, know these truths:
- God knows what’s going on.
- God knows what’s coming – the bad and the good.
- God is good.
- God is gracious.
- God is with you.
- God gives you everything you need.
- In fact, God gives you more than you deserve.
- The Lord Jesus is your Good Shepherd, your Rock, your Strength.
- Jesus is your Savior.
- You are part of God’s family, by his grace. Remember your Baptism!
- You have a home in heaven waiting for you.
- Insert more truths here! ___________________________
There’s more. So much more. We’ve got a whole book of God’s Word and promises. More than that, we’ve got a God who keeps his promises. Every. Single. One.
I recently saw the pictured lawn decoration again. I couldn’t get a picture of it; maybe next time I’m there. It now has flowers placed on the seat. Again, I ask, why?
Let’s stick with what we know for sure…
The Lord is faithful to all his words
and merciful toward all he has made.
14 The Lord lifts up all who fall,
and he supports all who are bowed down…
17 The Lord is righteous in all his ways
and merciful toward all that he has made.
18 The Lord is near to all who call on him,
to all who call on him in truth.
19 He grants the desire of those who fear him.
He hears their cry and saves them.
20 The Lord watches over all who love him.
(Psalm 145:13b, 14, 17-20a)
Grateful with you for grace,
